Let Your light Shine
Jesus said to his disciples: You are like light for the whole world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden, and no one would light a lamp and put it under a clay pot. A lamp is placed on a lamp stand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5: 14-16
On Tuesday 7 February, St Paul’s College celebrated the opening of the school year with a Mass. A major theme of the mass was to reflect on our College motto “Let your Light Shine” and what it means to be a member of St Paul’s.
Our Ceremony opened with an Acknowledgement of Country by Year 9 student Graeme Griffen, and a smoking ceremony by Reece, a representative of the Dunghutti people on whose land the school is located. The senior leaders reminded us of college culture paying tribute to our four houses and the faith that drives our mission. Fr James spoke to the staff and students of our responsibility to be active in the faith and positively contribute to the lives of our community.
The final blessing saw both the staff and students make a pledge to be the light in our community and have the courage to not hide it:
Staff led by Mr Johns
We, the staff of St Paul’s College call upon God to bless us in our vocation of teaching and nurturing these students and each other. May we show to them the face of Jesus in some small way everyday. May the spirit which dwells in our school be one of joy, compassion and holiness. May our presence, here in our parish community, remind us that we are called to be pilgrims on a journey together. Guide us Lord, as we guide and journey with others. Amen.
Students led by College Captains
We the students of St Paul’s College will try to do our best in all that we set out to do at school, whether it be academic, sporting, spiritual or helping out in our community. Lord help each of us to be leaders in our own way, setting examples for one another, and to ‘Let Our Light Shine’.
