Dear Parent/Carer
‘If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him?’
Romans 8: 31-34
I would like to acknowledge the excellent way our students have commenced the 2024 Academic Year! Last week we had our Lenten Service and launched the Project Compassion - CARITAS appeal and students’ uniform, attendance and behaviour across this service was outstanding. We also took part in our Annual Swimming Carnival and it was a most successful event with strong attendance and participation. I especially note the Year 12 cohort who continues to lead our College with a strong academic focus and high attendance at important College events.
We continue to remind our students of the importance of attendance, each and every day. We also ask that students regularly look over the work located in their Google Classroom and that they take the time to conclude classes with summary sentences which all teachers are requesting from their students.
One of our focus areas for 2024 is improving our Literacy across the College. We intend to do this through consistent summary sentence work at the end of all classes, increased opportunities for silent reading and literacy outcomes within ALL assessment activities. These initiatives will support strong Literacy growth across the College.
Our Year 7 students experienced BELONGING DAY this week and I thank Mr Matthew Mitchell, Mr Mitchell Robins, Ms Olivia Eberhaut (Youth Minister) and the Pastoral Care team in putting together such an excellent experience for our students. Fr James provided excellent input across the day, together with our Assistant Principal - Mission, Mr Geoff Melville. The day was an introduction to St Paul’s College and what is meant by a Catholic Community. Students engaged in a variety of activities that focussed on values and a strong understanding that we are all responsible for the creation of a College community that cares for all including the marginalised and disadvantaged.
Finally, we need to thank our incredible College staff. Our administration team, grounds team, canteen staff, co-educators and teachers who work together to care for all our students. I am conscious that many staff at the College are dealing with personal challenges, yet they continue to deliver what is required, each and every day, to ensure that our students are well supported. I thank them for all they do!
Happy weekend to you all.
Kind regards
Mr David JOHNS B.Ed., Cert. Gifted Ed., Grad. Cert. Adol. Health and Welfare, M.Ed. (Ed Lead), M.Ed. (Theol)
