Diocesan Junior Basketball
Our Year 9/10 basketball team represented the College at the Diocesan Carnival with determination. Our students, mainly from Year 9, gave up height and physicality from the outset, relying on speed and agility. Despite their best efforts, the inability to penetrate the tall defenders and rebound allowed an insurmountable possession imbalance. As the tournament progressed they developed as a team and were more structured in both defence and attack using more effective passing. Despite not winning a game, all the players maintained excellent sportsmanship and enjoyed their time on the court.

The Year 7/8 Basketball Team sent a scare through the more established Diocesan teams with their dogged hustle, establishing St Paul's credentials as a talented and cohesive unit. In spite of giving up height to most teams, our mobility around the court set up some exciting offensive plays. After two early wins, the climax of their Diocesan tournament was a very narrow loss to eventual finalist St John Paul College, Coffs Harbour. Eli Niland was a standout for his competitive spirit. The twin mid-sized maestros, Oliver Gill and Harry Shore, provided some silky drives to the basket, and Pierson Kemp was a rugged workhorse at centre. Congratulations to the boys on a very commendable effort.
